| Campaign Description: | State Senator Joel Laurie had introduced Senate Bill 241. The bill failed to pass in the
2007 legislative session. The legislation was carried over to 2008 and on June 5th, 2008, SB 241 became law, ensuring the divestiture of South Carolina based on the Sudan Divestment Task Force model
The South Carolina Retirement System does not currently hold international equity
investments, thus the proposed legislation is a prohibition against Sudan-related
investments, should the state diversify in the future. |
